Planning The Wedding
If you are interested in bypassing a year of wedding planning stress, and thinking about having a small legal ceremony at home affairs this is how to do it! Disclaimer having a wedding at home affairs can make you feel like you're on a conveyer belt, but if you plan it correctly it may be the most memorable day of your life.
Grab both of your ID's and head down to your closest home affairs office and pick the date you want to get married. Don't worry, you won't have to stand in those miserably long queues and wait for your ticket number. Marriage dates usually takes place at a separate window. Easy!
Make sure to give yourself plenty of time to get ready in the morning.
The next thing I'd recommend pick a place to eat (After the ceremony you deserve to celebrate with family or friends sharing a good meal and some bubbly!).
In Cape Town there is no shortage of amazing food venues, but if you are short on cash, why not have a light lunch at home?
My husband and I are both foodies, so we spent the majority of our time planning where to eat.
Eventually we landed on Dash Bar and Restaurant at the Queen Victoria Hotel.
The staff were wonderful, the food even better! The Hotel manager even suggested we use their private garden for some pictures.
Next on the list, probably the most important get a wedding photographer. Pictures last a life time. A great photographer can make any scene beautiful and memorable.
Lucky for me, my cousin possesses such talent. He followed us through the city snapping up our big day.
Choosing the guest list is probably the most daunting task when planning a wedding. A home affairs wedding however is pretty simple. 6 people excluding the bride and groom. We of course invited our parents, my husband's sister, the photographer and my son (who bunked school that day).
Last and certainly not least, choosing an outfit. Getting married at home affairs means you can wear whatever you like. If you feel like wearing a jeans and t-shirt, it's totally up to you!
Keep in mind the type of atmosphere at the place you've chosen to eat and choose outfits accordingly.
I believe a wedding should bring across your new couple personality. The day should be about what you want. If you can both live a complete and happy life together, never worrying about the colour of your table runners, or whether the center pieces matched your Pinterest board- this option might be for you.
